What to do immediately after receiving your Flamesa pellet heater

Follow these steps in order before using the pellet heater for the first time. Always keep the manual for your model close at hand and use the videos as additional visual guidance.

Important The manual for your specific Flamesa model always takes precedence during assembly, positioning and first use.

Keep the manual ready

Find the manual for your model and keep it beside you. Use the videos as additional support, but always follow the instructions in the manual.

Unpack all components

Carefully remove all components from the packaging and arrange them clearly. Use the manual to check which components belong to your model.

Assemble according to the manual

Assemble the pellet heater step by step according to the manual for your model. Do not fit components based on guesswork or skip any steps.

Position it safely

Place the pellet heater on a level, stable and heat-resistant surface, with sufficient clearance and good ventilation on all sides.

First use

Use dry 6 mm pellets, do not overfill the pellet heater and review the operating instructions in the manual once more before lighting it.

Pre-use check

Before every use

Check these points before filling and lighting your Flamesa.

Glass positioned correctly Check that the glass is straight, secure and seated in its intended position.
Air openings clear Remove ash, dirt and pellet residue that could block the airflow.
Certified 6 mm pellets Use dry DINplus- or ENplus A1-certified wood pellets with a diameter of 6 mm.
Stable and level Place the heater on a level, solid and heat-resistant surface.
Sufficient clearance Always observe the minimum clearances stated in the manual for your specific heater. Allow more space where required by the model manual, canopy or surrounding materials.

Ignition

How to light your Flamesa correctly

Only use the ignition method specified for your model and keep the model manual close at hand.

Method 1

Lighting with a gas torch

Fill the heater as instructed in the manual. Insert the gas torch only through the designated ignition opening and direct the flame at the lower pellets until they have caught properly. Then withdraw the torch slowly from the opening.

Method 2

Lighting with a firelighter

Only do this when the heater is completely cold. Carefully lift the glass, place one firelighter in the combustion chamber and light it there. Immediately refit the glass correctly as described in the manual for your model.

Never use firelighter cubes, petrol, methylated spirits, bioethanol or other liquid accelerants. Keep your face, hands, clothing and flammable materials away from the flame.

Maintenance

After every use

Do not begin until the fire is fully extinguished and the entire heater has cooled completely.

Allow to cool completely Do not touch the glass, combustion chamber or metal components until everything is completely cold.
Remove ash and pellet residue Remove cooled residue from the combustion chamber and around the air openings.
Clean the glass safely Only clean the glass once it has cooled completely and visible soot or dirt deposits are present. Remove the glass from the heater and spray it with our stove cleaner. Then scrub the glass thoroughly using the brush from the Flamesa® Pellet Stove Cleaning Kit Pro and rinse it thoroughly afterwards. The glass does not need to be cleaned after every use.
Check the air supply Check that ash, dust and pellet residue are not blocking any openings or passages. Carefully loosen any buildup with the supplied cleaning rod.
Store dry with a protective cover Allow the heater to cool and dry completely. Then store it in a dry place with a suitable Flamesa protective cover . Never place the cover over a warm heater.

Always follow the manual for your model The correct filling quantity, assembly and operation may differ between Flamesa models. The manual for your specific model therefore always takes precedence.

Use & common mistakes

Prevent and resolve problems involving ignition, smoke, pellets or the flame.

What should I check before lighting my Flamesa?

Check that the heater is fully and securely assembled, stands level and stable, and is free from damage. Also check that the glass is positioned correctly, the air openings are clear and there is no old ash or pellet residue in the combustion chamber.

Do not use the heater if the glass is damaged, parts are loose or openings are blocked.

Which pellets are suitable for my Flamesa?

Use only dry wood pellets with a diameter of 6 mm. Good-quality pellets contain little dust, are firm and do not immediately break apart.

Damp or poor-quality pellets may cause smoke, an unstable flame, black deposits and a blocked pellet feed. We always recommend DINplus- or ENplus A1-certified pellets for clean and efficient combustion.

Do not use logs, charcoal, briquettes, bioethanol or any other fuel.

How many pellets should I put in the heater?

The correct amount differs by model. Fill the reservoir according to the manual for your Flamesa and never exceed the indicated level.

Adding more pellets does not automatically extend the burn time. Overfilling may reduce airflow, create additional smoke, cause poor combustion or prevent the pellets from feeding correctly.

How do I light my Flamesa correctly?

Use the lighting method described in the manual for your model. Make sure the pellets ignite properly and allow the heater enough time to establish stable combustion.

If the pellets are lit too briefly or insufficiently, they may begin to smoulder. This often causes additional smoke and a weak flame.

Is an odour during first use normal?

A slight odour may occur during the first few hours as the heat-resistant coating and manufacturing residues warm up. This should normally decrease after several uses.

Provide additional ventilation during first use. Stop using the heater if you notice thick smoke, deformation, damage or a persistent strong chemical odour.

Why does my pellet heater smoke while being lit?

A small amount of smoke may occur during initial ignition. Persistent or thick smoke is usually caused by incomplete combustion.

After the heater has completely cooled, check:

whether the pellets are completely dry;
whether the pellets were properly ignited;
whether the combustion chamber is clean;
whether the air openings are clear;
whether wind is disrupting combustion.

Why is the flame too low or unstable?

A low, weak or unstable flame usually means that combustion is not receiving enough air, heat or a consistent supply of pellets.

Possible causes include:

The heater is positioned in an unsuitable location, such as too sheltered, too close to a wall or directly exposed to strong wind.
Rain, strong wind, gusts or other weather conditions are disrupting the natural airflow.
Clinker has formed: hard, fused residue in the combustion chamber is blocking the air openings.
The pellets are damp, too dusty, poor quality or unsuitable for the heater.
The combustion chamber, pellet feed or air openings are not sufficiently clean.
Combustion receives too little air because of a blockage, incorrect positioning or insufficient clearance.
The pellets were not ignited sufficiently or the heater has not yet had enough time to establish a stable flame.

Allow the heater to burn out and cool completely. Remove ash, pellet residue and any hard clinker. Check that all air openings and passages are fully clear and position the heater in an open, stable and suitable location in accordance with the manual. Try again using dry 6 mm DINplus- or ENplus A1-certified pellets .

Does the flame remain consistently too low after these checks? Stop using the heater and contact customer support. Include a clear video of the flame and photos of the combustion chamber, pellets and positioning.

Why does the flame become very high?

A high or strongly fluctuating flame may be caused by too many pellets, strong wind or excessive airflow. Do not add more pellets and only adjust an official air control if your model has one.

Does the flame remain uncontrollably high? Keep your distance and allow the heater to burn out in accordance with the manual.

The pellets are not feeding correctly. What should I do?

Pellets may become stuck if they are damp, swollen or very dusty. Old residue may also block the feed.

Allow the heater to burn out and cool completely. Then clean the pellet feed and use fresh, dry pellets.

Never insert tools or your hands into the pellet feed while the heater is burning or still hot.

May I refill pellets while the heater is burning?

This differs by model. Only refill pellets during operation if the manual for your Flamesa explicitly permits it and describes a safe procedure.

Never overfill the reservoir and keep your face, hands and clothing away from the opening and hot components.

How much clearance should I keep around my Flamesa?

Always maintain the minimum clearance around the pellet heater stated in the manual for your Flamesa model.

The required distance may differ by model and situation. Always follow the clearance and positioning instructions in the relevant manual.

Make sure heat, smoke and combustion gases can always disperse freely.

May I use my Flamesa under a veranda or covered area?

Yes, provided the area is sufficiently open and permanently ventilated. The heater is intended for outdoor use and must not be used in a fully enclosed conservatory, garden room, shed or indoor space.

Always maintain the minimum clearance above and around the pellet heater stated in the manual for your Flamesa model. The required distance may differ by model and situation.

May I use the heater in rain or strong wind?

Do not use the pellet heater in rain, snow or strong gusts. Water on hot glass may cause thermal stress, while strong wind may disrupt the flame and airflow.

Allow a wet heater to dry completely and inspect it for damage before using it again.

May I move a mobile Flamesa while it is burning?

No. Only move the heater after the fire is completely extinguished and all components have fully cooled.

The wheels are intended to make a cold heater easier to move, not to move it while burning or cooling.

Why does the glass turn black?

Black deposits usually indicate incomplete combustion. Possible causes include damp pellets, insufficient air, dirty air openings, too many pellets or poor ignition.

Do not only clean the glass; also check the combustion chamber, pellets and airflow. Otherwise the deposits will quickly return.

How often should I remove ash and pellet residue?

Allow the heater to cool completely after use and remove remaining ash and pellet residue before it accumulates.

Before every new use, check that the combustion chamber and air openings are clean and fully clear. Even a thin layer of ash may affect airflow.

How do I clean the glass safely?

Only clean the glass after it has fully cooled. Use a soft cloth and a suitable stove-glass cleaner.

Do not use steel wool, hard scouring pads, aggressive degreasers or cold water on warm glass.

How do I clean the metal components?

Use a soft, slightly damp cloth and a mild cleaning product. Dry the components thoroughly afterwards to reduce water marks and corrosion.

Avoid abrasive or corrosive products. When in doubt, test a cleaner on a small, inconspicuous area first.

How should I store my Flamesa and pellets?

Allow the heater to cool completely, clean it and store it in a dry place protected from prolonged rain and moisture.

Always use a suitable protective cover, but never place it over a warm or damp heater. Store pellets in a dry, sealed container so they do not swell or break apart.

When should I stop using the heater and contact support?

Stop using the heater if you notice:

cracked or broken glass;
loose or missing components;
an unstable or deformed frame;
persistent thick smoke;
a blocked pellet feed;
a repeatedly uncontrolled flame.

Remove cold ash and pellet residue

Start by completely clearing the combustion chamber and all accessible air openings.

Remove loose residue with a soft brush.
Only vacuum ash once it is completely cold.
Check that all air openings are completely clear.
Do not use a standard household vacuum cleaner.

Clean the glass cylinder

Remove soot and deposits without damaging the glass or its finish.

Only clean glass that has completely cooled.
Apply the Flamesa cleaner and allow it to work briefly.
Wipe it clean with a soft microfibre cloth or brush.
Rinse the glass cylinder thoroughly and allow it to dry.

Inspect, dry and protect

Only complete the cleaning process once every component is clean and completely dry.

Inspect the glass carefully for damage.
Correctly reinstall all removed components.
Allow the entire pellet heater to dry thoroughly.
Only cover a heater that is completely cold and dry.
